Ancient

 Ancient history is flush with unsolved mysteries, some of which, from lost burial sites to sunken cities, have captivated the public imagination for centuries.

“People are fascinated by origins, people are fascinated by mysteries,” says Andrea M. Berlin, a professor of archeology at Boston University. “We’re very curious about what we can’t see, about what came before.”


Recorded history has been with us for nearly 5000 years, and there is still so much we cannot explain. Whether to a lack of a writing system, inaccurate accounts, or lost records, the majority of the finer details of how our ancestors lived have been lost to time. We do, however, have a rough idea of how they lived and the events that took place in their day and age, but sadly much is still unknown. Even in the early Modern Age, as record-keeping became more commonplace, historians were left totally in the dark on some subjects. There is a good chance that there are plenty of moments and wonders of our past that we will never truly understand in full. Some things just seemed to be destined to remain shrouded in mystery.

Thanks to the tireless work of top-notch scientists, historians, and archeologists, new discoveries and breakthroughs are being made each day. All of these advancements paint a clearer picture than ever before. However, despite the unprecedented progress made, much of Antiquity remains shrouded in mystery. Even though our experts are sitting on hills of information, there are still mountains of missing clues and pieces to the puzzle.
